Mr. Uchenna Cyrinus Umeh

Vice Chairman , SNA Edo State Chapter

Uchenna Cyrinus Umeh is a multidisciplinary Nigerian artist from Imo State, best known for his work as a painter and poet. Though skilled in various media, he prefers to define himself through his expressive painting and literary art forms.

As an ARTivist, Umeh channels his studio practice into environmental sustainability, transforming plastic waste into compelling works of art. His experimental approach includes the use of diverse materials, and his coral bead-inspired paintings evoke nostalgia, spiritual depth, and reimagined cultural memories.

He is the founder of Fontini Cristi Art Studios and Gallery in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, a creative platform through which he mentors children via a free weekend art training programme, nurturing the next generation of artists.

An expert in stained glass and mosaic art, Umeh has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including two art auctions in the United Kingdom. He is also a Bronze Medalist at the Black Heritage/Caterina de Medici International Painting Competition in France (2010).

His academic journey includes a Diploma in Physical Education, Bachelor of Arts, and Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Benin, as well as an M.Sc. in Religious Studies from Anáhuac University, Mexico. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Benin.

Umeh is actively involved in multiple professional bodies. He is a founding member and Vice President of the Art Galleries and Promoters Association (AGPA), and a member of Art of Play Initiatives (API), NANTAP (Edo Chapter), Visionary Art Nexus (VAN), and Art Alliance 51. He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Edo State Chapter.

Uche describes himself as an eternal student of art and life, constantly exploring, learning and evolving through creative expression.
